Artists of the Month

 

Zamuel Ballet School -- Caroline Wilson received a year-round scholarship at Youth America Grand Prix Finals in New York to The John Cranko School of Stuttgart Ballet Also, she will attend The San Francisco School of Ballet on full scholarship this summer. Brieanna Olson received one out of six internships for the summer of 2007 to perform and train with Dennis Nahat, Artistic Director of Ballet San Jose, and Chairman of the Dance Department, Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, Long Island, New York.  Moriah Taliaferro has been accepted to the Royal Ballet School's 2007 summer program in London.  Ariel and Leah Ha have been invited to the summer intensive program at Houston Ballet Academy and Leah Ha was awarded a scholarship to American Ballet Theater School, New York. 

Zamuel Ballet School extends congratulations to this year's competition winners that will be participating in the 2007 "A Celebration of Classical Ballet" performance:

2007 Denver Ballet Guild Competition: Category III 1st place-Ariel Ha, top 10-Caroline Diane Wilson, Moriah Taliaferro.  Category II 1st place-Leah Ha (Florence Ruxton award for overall excellence), top 10-Tatum Shoptaugh.
 
2007 Denver Semi-Finals of Youth America Grand Prix: Senior Classical 1st place-Ariel Ha.  Senior Contemporary 2nd place-Ariel Ha.  Junior Classical 1st place-Leah Ha, 2nd place-Caroline Diane Wilson, top 12-Tatum Shoptaugh.  Pre-Competitive top 12-Avery Kennedy, Elise Gaubatz.  Ensemble 1st place-Ariel Ha, Leah Ha.  Ariel, Leah, Caroline, and Tatum have been invited to the YAGP Finals in New York.

June 1 & 2The Peak Ballet Theatre’s

Spring Production:  “A Midsummer’s Dream”

 

The Peak Ballet Theatre presents its 2007 Spring production “A Midsummer’s Dream” on June 1 and 2 at 7:00 P.M. (doors open at 6:30 P.M.) at the Lloyd Shaw Auditorium, Cheyenne Mountain High School, 1200 Cresta Road, Colorado Springs, CO  80906.  The whimsical full-length ballet features guest artists from regional professional ballet companies and innovative, playful choreography by Mark Carlson of The International Ballet School in Littleton, Colorado.  The Peak Ballet Theatre will also be performing contemporary selections by Gillian Kulikowski and Megan Yacko, to be debuted following the ballet.  General admission tickets are $15.00.  Group rates and special student ticket prices are available and children under 5 are free.  For additional information and ticket sales call 719.632.7511 or visit our Web Site at www.thepeakballet.org .

June 2 – Northridge Dance Conservatory will be performing at Sand Creek High School (please use the mapquest link below for directions).

 
Two opportunities to catch this great show -- 2:30 p.m. & 7 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased at the door at $10/seat general admission or paid for in advance by calling 719.632.7665.  Jonathan Guise has choreographed three world premieres for this show:  Buzkil (Modern); Read the Lines (Jazz); Abrac'am (contemporary partnering).

Also a fun new version of The Sleeping Beauty ACT III has been created especially for this show. The timeless classic has been revived with exuberance, technique, special effects and twists. The majority of performances that involve The Sleeping Beauty have other characters from different fairy tales. June 2 – Maureen McGovern in Concert with the Velvet Hills Chorus

The Velvet Hills Chapter of Sweet Adeline's will have the pleasure and privilege of singing with Ms. McGovern on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs, CO. This is a wonderful opportunity for those of us in the Pikes Peak region to hear “The Stradivarius Voice”, so named because of her vocal clarity and range.  This award winning performer is known for such hits as “The Morning After” from The Poseidon Adventure, for which she won an Academy Award as well as the Grammy-nominated “We May Never Love Like This Again” from The Towering Inferno.  For further information on this exciting concert event, including ticket orders, for both programs, go to the Velvet Hills Website, www.velvethills.org .

June 2 -- Introducing - "Great Women of Our World"
The Movement Dance Co.'s first full production, a spirited tribute to the lives of some fascinating women through-out history.

Hampden Hall is a wonderfully intimate performance venue to see The Movement Dance Co. at its best, with seating limited to 192 people per show, so purchase your tickets soon! Tickets are on sale now at advance-purchase pricing - $10 per person, or $30 for a family pack of four tickets. If you wait until the day of the show, tickets for any seats that may still be available will be sold at the door for $12 per person, or $35 for a family pack of four tickets.  Children 3 and under are free, but must be held in a lap, as the limited seating does not allow us to provide a seat for them. Parking is free!

Through June 3 – The Star Bar Players present Noel Coward’s “Hay Fever,” directed by Sandy Bray. June 9 -- The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore

The Pikes Peak Arts Council will act as the “umbrella” for all the participating organizations. Additonal sponsors include KCME-FM, 88.7, the Clifford Creative Group, and the Colorado Springs Gazette. Tickets are $25. VIP seating and a special pre-performance reception available for the Saturday night concert. The efforts of five organizations will make this possible. Three of the organizations will be needed to bring Giancarlo Menotti’s masterpiece The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore to life: the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Colorado’s Classical Youth Ballet and the Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble. But the performance would not be possible without the efforts from its two presenters: The Colorado Springs School and the Colorado College Summer Festival of the Arts who are holding the event as a special benefit for the performing organizations.

June 2 – Tap Master Class with Robert Reed

 

Join Robert L. Reed, founder of the St. Louis Tap Festival and St. Louis Hoofers Club, a youth tap ensemble, for another exciting weekend of Tap on Saturday, June 2nd!

Time: Beginner/Advanced Beginner Workshop: 5:30-7 pm
Intermediate/Advanced Workshop: 7-8:30 pm

Robert L. Reed is a much sought after tap teacher, producer, choreographer, and performer. He's taught and performed all over the world. He received rave reviews for his teaching at Broadway Dance Center in NYC. For several years, he served as Professor and Artist-In -Residence at a performing arts university. Mr. Reed is proficient at teaching many styles of tap and is the protégé of Maceo Anderson, a founding member of the Four Step Brothers dance act. Three of his young students, the St. Louis Hoofers, reached the semi-finals on Star Search. He was with Riverdance as dance captain and toured as a principle with Incognito in Europe. Reed was a featured artist at the Peg Leg Bates Resort and has toured with Cab Calloway. Mr. Reed has opened for such Luminaries as Sammy Davis Jr., Jerry Lewis, Redd Foxx, Cher, the Smothers Brothers and David Hasselhoff, to name a very few. He is the founder and executive/artistic director of the internationally renowned St. Louis Tap Festival, now in it's 16th year.  (Read more about the exciting line-up at this year's festival at www.tapheritage.org.
